Supercute! humored me last night by singing a “radio edit” of Flower by Liz Phair.  I was surprised that some people in the audience seemed not to know this song.  To me it is sort of like Happy Birthday, ie, the kind of song you feel you were just born knowing.  This is to say that it had been a long time since I thought about the lyrics of this song.

They are the filthiest lyrics ever, obviously.  After one email with Rachel T. of Supercute! I realized I could not involve a band constituted by 13, 14, and 16 year olds in the singing of this actual song or I would maybe get arrested.

The clean lyrics we sang are below.  Additional lyrics were provided by Bex Schwartz, esp the verse about dancing.

Supercute!  part:

Every time I see your face
It takes me to a special place
Every time you pass me by
I heave a sigh of pain

Emily part:

Every time I see your face
I think of all that’s pure and chaste
I want to pet you like a dog
I’ll take you home and make you pancakes

Everything you ever wanted
Everything you ever thought of
Is everything I’ll do with you
I’ll like your friends and family too

Your face reminds me of a flower
kind of like you’re underwater
Hair’s too long and in your eyes
your lips a perfect kiss-me size

You act like you’re fourteen years old
Everything you say is so
obnoxious funny true and mean
I want to be your blow-pop queen

You’re probably shy and introspective
That’s ok it’s all subjective
I just want to dance the shimmy
twist me turn me dip me spin me!

Every time I see your face
I think of things so pure and chaste

I want to pet you like a dog
I’ll take you home and make you waffles

Everything you’ve ever wanted
Everything you’ve ever thought of
Is everything I’ll do with you
I’ll hug you til your face is blue!
